Virtual interviews have become a norm in the hiring process over the past few years. While they may seem easier or quicker than the regular in-person interview, you should be as prepared as you would be for the in-person one.
We have created a list of some helpful tips to make sure you get through the process without any hiccups:
Username and/or profile picture
First impressions count, so make sure that your username/email address and profile picture (if you have set one) look appropriate and professional.
Background research
Do some research on the company, go through their website, social media feeds, and even use the News section on your search engine to see what they’ve done over the past few months.
Internet connectivity
Double check your internet connectivity, to make sure it can handle audio and video without any sudden drops.
Dress to impress
It is still an interview so make sure you look professional on camera.
Video Background
Make sure your background is tidy and not distracting, alternatively try using a virtual background, but test it out first to make sure it works smoothly.
Lighting and sound
Check on lighting to ensure your face is well illuminated and ideally not coming from behind you onto the screen.
Also, make sure your audio (headphones/speakers and microphone) is working, and you are in a place where you won’t be distracted by loud noises, this will help avoid any delays during the interview. You can always test these on the video interview platform itself.
Supporting documents
Always have your CV, any portfolio you might have shared, and your application close by for reference.
Practice, practice, practice
Have a few mock interviews with family or friends so you can trial run all the above before your big day. Remember to get feedback from them and good luck!
